What is the strumming pattern for love story by Taylor Swift?

by admin on April 10, 2010

I know that Swift is not technically country, but I’ve found that people in the country music section give the best answers with regards to guitar. Anyway….
I know that the first verses of Love Story using a broken chord rhythm, but when the song changes (you were Romeo you were throwing pebbles), the strum pattern has been confusing me. I tried a bunch of different patterns, but nothing seems to sound exactly right. Can someone please helpme out with this?

Thanks so much!

The whole song is actually all down strums. When it comes to the prechorus, you slow down with the down strums. Kind of like this.

(D) = down strum

(D) (D D) (D D) (D D)
You were Romeo you were throwing pebbles.

Kind of like that. I can’ explain it, but I do it that way.

A good tip:
Listen carefully to the song. Concentrate on the background music and not on the lyrics.

Good luck!

Put the pick in your hand and run it along the strings.

The strumming pattern is the rhythm of the song. Listen to it and emulate it. That’s all there is to it.
