‘Twilight’ Star Ashley Greene Gets VMA Advice From Taylor Swift
‘You have to think on your toes,’ Swift tells this year’s fashion correspondent.

Ashley Greene has been tapped to be this year’s MTV News fashion correspondent for the Video Music Awards preshow on Sunday in New York City. Greene follows in the illustrious footsteps of VMA-nominated Taylor Swift, who had the task last year.

We asked Swift what qualities she thought the new correspondent should have. “[It should be] someone who really likes talking to people and who has really great style,” she explained. Swift even had a little bit of advice for “Twilight” star Greene, who has shown over her career that she certainly knows how to dress for a carpet.

“I think that my tips as far as being a fashion correspondent are: don’t rehearse, because … they’ll be like, ‘Alright, well, here are all the people coming to the VMAs, here are the people that are gonna show up on the red carpet,’ ” she said, adding that even with that knowledge you don’t what will happen.

She did point out that Greene should have a working knowledge of the people who will arrive to the show. “Have a couple questions for each of them — so you have to have a general knowledge of what’s going on in the careers of musicians today.”

Despite all this, it really does all go back to rule #1: You just never know what is going to happen when you’re there. “But you never know who’s going to walk up,” Swift said. “They’re like, ‘So, Pink and Katy Perry are walking up in five minutes, be ready.’ And I’m like, ‘Alright.’ So you have to think on your toes.”

” ‘You Belong With Me’ is not going to be as different musically as it’s going to be different in that I’ve never done anything on an awards show like I’m going to do on this one,” she teased, saying that the show’s location adds to the allure of her performance. “It’s in New York, so anything can happen.”

The singer also revealed that she’d like to take her performance out of Radio City Music Hall and maybe pop up somewhere else. “I would love to perform somewhere outside of the venue,” she said. “I think it could be really cool if it was unlike anything I’ve ever done at an awards show, which would mean doing it at a different location.”
